Thickness and appearance depend on the complete job

Prescription, material/index, diameter, center and edge thickness, base curve, decentration and frame shape all affect the result. A flatter-looking profile can be possible, but no single feature guarantees the thinnest or lightest lens.

Functional treatments are separate specifications

What is an aspheric lens?

An aspheric lens has at least one surface whose curvature changes away from a simple sphere. The exact form is part of the selected optical design.

Is every aspheric lens thinner and lighter?

No. Thickness and weight depend on the complete prescription, material/index, diameter, base curve, center and edge thickness, decentration and frame shape. An aspheric form can support a flatter-looking profile in suitable designs but is not a universal guarantee.

How should refractive index be selected?

Review the full RX, blank diameter, calculated center and edge thickness, base curve, Abbe value, specific gravity, frame and coating compatibility. Do not rely on one diopter threshold alone.

Does aspheric mean anti-reflective or bluecut?

No. Aspheric describes surface geometry. Anti-reflective performance and blue filtering require separate compatible materials or treatments and their own specifications.

Can aspheric lenses be photochromic?

Yes, where the selected aspheric design, material and coating stack are compatible. Activation color and performance depend on the photochromic system, temperature, UV exposure and product conditions.

What are the blue markings on the lens?

They are removable external layout markings used to show optical or fitting references, alignment points and eye side during laboratory verification. They are different from permanent engravings.

Aspheric surface design

An aspheric surface departs from a simple spherical curve. Depending on the complete prescription and product construction, it can support a flatter-looking profile or a different distribution of off-axis optical behavior. It does not guarantee that every finished lens will be thinner, lighter or distortion-free.

Material and index selection

Index is selected from the complete prescription and job requirements, including SPH, CYL, AXIS, ADD and prism, blank diameter, center/edge thickness, base curve, Abbe value, specific gravity, frame and coating compatibility. A single diopter threshold table is not sufficient.

External layout markings

Blue removable external markings can identify optical or fitting references, alignment points and eye side during laboratory verification and dispensing. Permanent engravings and removable layout marks serve different identification functions.

Separate functional specifications

Aspheric geometry does not itself create anti-reflective performance, blue filtering, photochromic response or scratch resistance. Each function requires a compatible material or treatment and its own agreed verification criteria.
