Freeform describes a manufacturing and design approach
Digital surfacing can create complex lens surfaces from a selected design file. It does not by itself mean that every lens is fully personalized.
Customization depends on supplied data
The result can only use parameters supported by the chosen design program and supplied accurately with the order. Missing or incorrect frame and fitting data cannot be corrected by the surfacing process alone.
Performance is verified against the prescription order
Finished lenses should be checked for power, geometry, markings, appearance and mounting requirements using the agreed specification and applicable standards.
- Create the job reference: enter the customer reference, wearer or patient reference, urgency and any production message so the order remains traceable.
- Choose the finishing route: confirm fast uncut, uncut with precalculation, customer-supplied frame, remote edging or frame-and-lens package, plus the frame or mounting type.
- Enter frame geometry: upload a trace when available or supply the selected shape with HBOX/A, VBOX/B, DBL and other required geometry. Confirm drill, groove or shape-adjustment data when applicable.
- Enter the right and left RX: select the named freeform design and record SPH, CYL, AXIS, ADD, monocular far PD, fitting height/SEG and prescribed prism magnitude and base direction for each eye.
- Confirm the lens system: select material and refractive index, diameter, clear/photochromic/polarized option, coating, tint and any supported advanced parameters.

A CNC freeform generator produces the selected complex surface from a controlled design file and verified job data. The finished surface is then polished, cleaned and inspected before further treatment or edging.

External layout markings
