OptoCalc Invisible Bifocal Design Scope

This page focuses on OptoCalc Invisible Bifocal, an advanced Freeform bifocal with a digitally generated round near segment blended into the lower lens surface. The design is intended to improve aesthetics, smooth the power transition and reduce the characteristic image jump of traditional visible-segment bifocals. Conventional bifocal styles require separate segment and fitting confirmation.

Invisible Bifocal Calculation, Fitting and Inspection

Each Invisible Bifocal order is calculated from the complete RX and confirmed design. The verified design references are a 4 mm fitting cross position, 12 mm recommended fitting height, 10 mm minimum fitting height and 0-6 mm inset. Supply monocular PD, fitting height, frame measurements or trace, material, treatment and finishing requirements. External reference marks used during inspection are not a physical ridge or permanent optical boundary.

Bifocal Lens Specifications and Ordering Guide

OptoCalc Invisible Bifocal production requires the complete prescription, ADD, monocular PD, fitting height, frame data and the verified 4 mm fitting cross, 12 mm recommended height, 10 mm minimum height and 0-6 mm inset references.

Digitally blended round near segment

OptoCalc Invisible Bifocal integrates a digitally generated round near segment into the lower lens area. The surface is blended to make the dividing line nearly invisible and to reduce the abrupt image jump associated with traditional visible-segment bifocals.

Available corridor lengthNot applicable
Fitting cross position4 mm

Minimum fitting height10 mm
Inset0-6 mm

These values apply to the Invisible Bifocal design and should not be reused for conventional visible-segment bifocals or other Freeform designs.

01 RX & ADD Review

Confirm the complete R/L prescription, ADD and any prescribed prism/base information.

02 Fitting & Frame Review

Check monocular PD, fitting height, frame dimensions or trace and intended distance and near tasks.

03 Design & Material Confirmation

Confirm the Freeform bifocal program, applicable fitting reference, material, treatment, color and finishing.

04 Controlled Production

Manufacture the approved specification through digital calculation, surfacing, polishing and treatment processes.

05 Finished-Lens Verification

Check prescription power, external reference points, appearance and the confirmed finishing requirements before delivery.

What vision ranges does a bifocal lens provide?

A bifocal lens combines two principal prescribed viewing distances: distance correction and a lower near addition for reading and close work.

Is the large dashed lower arc a real segment line?

No. It is a temporary external marking used for identification and inspection. It is not a physical ridge, groove or hard zone boundary in the lens.

How is a bifocal different from a progressive lens?

A bifocal provides distance and near correction. A progressive changes power continuously through distance, intermediate and near areas without a visible segment line.

Which fitting data are required?

Provide the complete R/L prescription including ADD, monocular PD, fitting height, frame measurements or trace and any design-specific position-of-wear data.

Which materials and treatments are available?

Suitable orders may use CR-39 or higher-index materials with compatible hard coating, anti-reflective, hydrophobic, Photo Grey or polarized gray options.

Are fitting-height values universal?

No. For OptoCalc Invisible Bifocal, the catalogue references are a 4 mm fitting cross position, 12 mm recommended fitting height, 10 mm minimum fitting height and 0-6 mm inset. These values are design-specific and should not be applied to every bifocal program.

How do I request Freeform bifocal lens samples?

Send the target prescription range, ADD, fitting requirements, material and treatment options, frame conditions and destination market. The RX team reviews the requested program before confirming suitable samples.

Can Heritage support repeat bifocal lens orders?

Yes. Once the design, fitting inputs, material, treatment, packaging and any special engraving marks are confirmed, the supported order records can simplify review for subsequent production.

How Heritage Verifies Freeform Bifocal Lens Orders

Each order is reviewed as one complete lens system so the prescription, ADD, fitting information, design, frame, material and treatment requirements remain aligned through production.

01 Order Completeness

Confirm the R/L prescription, ADD, monocular PD, fitting height, frame information and prescribed prism data.

02 Design Compatibility

Review the selected Freeform bifocal program, fitting reference, material and frame conditions before production release.

03 External Reference Inspection

Use the applicable fitting cross and temporary reference marks to support layout and power verification.

04 Finished-Lens Check

Verify the completed lens against the confirmed order, treatment, appearance and finishing requirements.
